Lidsville was the second Sid and Marty Krofft children’s program, following on the heels of H.R. Pufnstuf. It only ran for one season, in 1971. That was slightly before my time, but I had completely forgotten my own childhood experience of Lidsville in the late ’70s*, until an article about it appeared in The Onion in 2000. A single screenshot from the show brought back a flood of old memories, and I tracked down a VHS copy of a few episodes.

*I’m still trying to piece together exactly what I saw as a kid, and whether or not Lidsville was part of it, although I think it was, because I clearly remember the growing hat in the opening credits. I know I used to watch The Krofft Supershow, with Wonderbug being my favorite. I believe where I saw Lidsville, however, was as part of the Krofft Superstars which, as noted here, was not the same as the Krofft Superstar Hour featuring the Bay City Rollers. Rather, it was a syndicated show on weekday afternoons featuring reruns of old Krofft shows. There’s no mention of Lidville being a part of the Krofft Superstars, though. The mystery goes on.
